The Cherry Barb comes from the streams of Sri Lanka. It is a peaceful
fish that does well in a community aquarium as long as it has a couple of other
individuals of its own kind along with it.
It does like to hide in dense vegetation, which it also nibbles on. It
also prefers a dark substrate ( bottom material ) of dark gravel, peat and thick
plants.
The water temperature should be kept between 23 - 26C ( 73 - 79 F ) and
the pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
It is omnivorous, liking small live foods and vegetation, but eating
flaked foods just as well.
It develops the beautiful red colour during the mating season.
It is a beautiful little fish that is well worth keeping in a community
tank.
